Welcome, members of the 130th Maine legislature! The following is a message from the Equal Justice Partners’ Circle. We are a group of people who know poverty, racism and hardship firsthand and are joining together to address the major problems facing low-income people in Maine. We are Mainers from different backgrounds who have experienced marginalization of one kind or another, and we are working together to bring an end to it. We share this message to ask you to join with us to address health care needs, housing insecurity and the deepening poverty we see in our communities. The pandemic has highlighted every crack in our society, and we cannot be silent in the face of these times. We are here to share our stories and experiences in order to achieve a system that treats everyone with the dignity and respect we deserve and the opportunity to advance ourselves.
