Food Assistance (SNAP), formally called Food Stamps, helps people pay for food. You get a card you can use to buy food at grocery stores.

General Assistance, called GA, comes from towns and cities, like Portland and Lewiston, to help pay for housing costs and other basic needs like food and medicine.

Supplemental Security Income, called SSI, is a state program that gives you cash to pay for basic needs like food, clothing, and shelter. Sometimes people call this program Social Security.
 

TANF stands for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families. TANF provides cash help to families with children living at home. TANF can help some immigrants pay for basic needs like housing, heat, and other things

Legal assistance for noncitizens on immigration-related issues. ILAP helps immigrants improve their legal status and advocates for more just and humane laws and policies.

Maine Equal Justice (MEJ) seeks a dynamic and creative Communications and Digital Outreach Coordinator (CDOC) to take our communications and digital engagement to the next level. The CDOC will support our work to expand access to affordable healthcare and will support education and outreach communications across the organization.

Maine Equal Justice seeks a dynamic and passionate Workforce Navigator to help us connect workers with good jobs, registered apprenticeship and training programs, unemployment benefits, and support services. The Navigator will actively reach out to connect workers with these opportunities. The Navigator will coordinate outreach, develop expertise in job placement, unemployment insurance, and other support services, and work to develop the leadership of workers to address systemic barriers that prevent workers from gaining dignity and economic security on the job.
